What Becca actually got right
Becca was an Australian-founded line that arrived with an unusually complete complexion range at a time when most brands stopped at the extremes, and it built its cult on a category that barely existed when it started: highlighter. The Shimmering Skin Perfector, in both pressed and liquid form, defined what a modern highlighter was supposed to look like — a lit-from-within sheen rather than a stripe of glitter.
The Champagne Pop shade, developed with Jaclyn Hill, is the product most people remember. It sold in the tens of thousands within minutes of launch and set the template for the creator-collaboration model that the whole industry then copied. Later collaborations never recaptured it, and that gap is part of the story of why the brand eventually struggled.
The complexion line deserved more attention than it got. The Aqua Luminous foundation was a genuinely hydrating, light-reflective formula, and the shade range covered undertones from very fair to deep at a point when that was still rare.
What to buy now instead
If you are here for the Champagne Pop finish, the thing to look for is a finely milled, warm-champagne powder highlighter with no visible glitter particles — the finish, not the brand, is what made it work. Several drugstore and mid-range brands now make one for a fraction of what Becca charged.
If you liked the liquid Shimmering Skin Perfector, look for a liquid illuminator you can mix into foundation rather than layer on top. That mixing trick was the best way to use the original and it still is.
If it was the Aqua Luminous foundation you missed, the category to shop is hydrating serum foundations with a satin finish and a broad shade range. That description covered almost nothing in 2012 and covers a great deal in 2026.
One warning about resale. Becca stock still circulates on marketplaces, and powder and cream makeup that has been sitting in a warehouse since 2021 is well past its useful life. Cream and liquid formulas in particular separate and grow unfriendly over five years. We would not buy it.
