DIY Face Masks

Pineapple or Papaya exfoliating & moisturising mask
(Great for dull skin that needs brightening)
Pineapple contains a powerful enzyme called bromelain. Bromelain has been shown to be anti-inflammatory as well as a powerful cleanser. The enzymes and fruit acids in pineapple brighten the skin beautifully by exfoliating the skin. Unripe papaya contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids and high levels of papain, an enzyme that help get rid of dead skin cells.  Honey helps skin retain moisture.  If you have sensitive skin or prefer a gentler exfoliation, use ripe papaya, which has less papain.

4 large pineapple chunks or 1/2 cup unripe papaya
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tsp raw honey

Put the ingredients into a blender, then apply to the skin. Leave for 20 minutes then wash off with warm water and a soft wash cloth.

Moisturizing Mask:

  • 2 egg whites, separated from the yolk and placed in a bowl
  • 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt (I like Greek yogurt)
Separate the egg whites and place them in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of yogurt (do not use flavored yogurt!). Mix them up and apply to face. Leave on face for a few minutes then rinse face in warm water, followed by a warm washcloth. Yogurt adds lactic acid (alpha-hydroxy) and gives the mask a creamy texture.
Go ahead and make your home a spa!  You deserve it!
